Vinay Mohan Kwatra took over as the Foreign Secretary on May 1 this year, succeeding Harsh Vardhan Shringla.

A government order issued on Monday said “The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has extended the service of 1988 batch IFS officer Vinay Mohan Kwatra as Foreign Secretary. He will no longer retire on December 31, 2022. Till April 30, 2024.” His extension has been approved.

The extension of his tenure comes at a time when India is assuming the chairmanship of G-20. India is set to host the G-20 summit next year.Earlier, Kwatra served as India’s envoy to Nepal.Kwatra has wide expertise in dealing with India’s neighborhood as well as the US, China and Europe Known for.
