How can this be called surrender or forgiveness?” Rahul Gandhi had courted a controversy by claiming that Savarkar had sent petitions to the British from the Andaman Cellular Jail for mercy. The MNS chief said, “The BJP is defaming Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru and this should stop. There are many important issues before the country that need attention. Criticizing the national heroes who fought for freedom will not do you any good. Everyone has positive and negative aspects. Now there is no need to highlight the negative side.

Thackeray also criticized Maharashtra Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari for his remarks about Chhatrapati Shivaji, accusing him of being anti-Marathi. Meanwhile, the Congress hit back at Thackeray saying people have lost faith in him as he keeps changing his political stand. Mumbai Congress President Bhai Jagtap said, Thackeray has no right to criticize Rahul Gandhi. MNS is finished as a political party.
