Mumbai: Bollywood actor Prateik Babbar, who has made a mark in the entertainment industry with his work in ‘Dum Maro Dum’, ‘Darbar’ and ‘Brahmastra’, is all set for his upcoming film ‘India Lockdown’ directed by Madhur Bhandarkar. Totally ready for. Sharing his experience about this, the actor told what kind of role he plays. In this film, he is seen playing the role of Madhav, a migrant worker who is forced to go back to his village with his wife due to the lockdown.
Talking about his role, Prateik said, “My role is that of a migrant worker whose life comes to a standstill and he is caught in a dilemma whether to try and live in a city away from home. Should or it would be wise to go.
On being asked how he prepared for his character, the actor said, “We did a lot of preparation for this character. I met some migrant workers and had a heart to heart conversation with them. From their body language and how they lived their worldly lives. All these day-to-day observations informed me about playing the role of Madhav.”
The actor said that another challenging task was to learn the dialect and for perfection, he took coaching and watched films. “The dialect was different, the accents were very different. We had a dialogue coach on set who helped us through every word, dialogue and emotion. It was a bit about preparation. I also saw reference films, ‘Chakra’, ‘Aakrosh’, ‘Ankur’, ‘Do Bigha Zameen’ which had characters similar to migrants. Understanding his struggle and anger was a very important insight into Madhav’s preparation.”
‘India Lockdown’ is about the impact of the pandemic and lockdown on the common people. It highlights how many people became jobless, the issue of migrant workers going back to their native places, and sex workers being deprived of their source of income.
Asked what is worth watching in the film and how people will connect with it, he said, “Why shouldn’t people watch ‘India Lockdown’? It is a sentiment that we all share globally and it is not just confined to our country. It is a universally shared sentiment. It binds us together. ‘India Lockdown’ portrays the feelings and emotions of anxiety, confusion and restlessness experienced by laborers and citizens across the world.”
In the end, the actor said, “I think coping with the pandemic was not easy. It is a reminder of the times when we all experienced the darkness together and came out together and found the light. The human spirit was tested but we emerged stronger.” Starring Shweta Basu Prasad, Prateik Babbar, Aahana Kumra, Sai Tamhankar and Prakash Belawadi in lead roles, the film will stream on ZEE5 from 2nd December.
