Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Friday announced winter assistance of ₹300 each to about 48 lakh beneficiaries for buying blankets under Madhu Babu Pension Yojana and National Pension Scheme.
The assistance will be transferred to the accounts of the beneficiaries before December 1. A release from the Chief Minister’s Office said that the state government has sanctioned Rs 146 crore to provide winter assistance to the needy.
The chief minister reviewed the situation after the IMD predicted further drop in temperature in the interior districts in the coming days. During the meeting, he stressed on keeping the poor especially the senior citizens safe during the weather.
He advised the Panchayati Raj Department, Urban Development Department, District Collectors and Municipal Authorities to take immediate steps to ensure that no person is left abandoned or helpless in the cold winter nights.
So far 855 shelters have been opened in the state. It has been decided to use panchayat offices and school houses as night shelters, wherever necessary. Along with this, steps will be taken to ensure that all the beneficiaries get the assistance amount on 30th November and 1st December.
