National Girl Child Day is celebrated every year on 24 January in India. The purpose of celebrating this day is to make people aware of the discrimination against the girl child in the country. It was started in 2008 by the Ministry of Women and Child Development.

Beti Bachao Beti Padhao was started in 2015 with the aim of empowering women. Government’s ‘Beti Bachao Beti Padhao’ campaign is a very good step for girls. Through this, many important issues related to girls and women are raised. Many inhuman practices like female feticide have come down now.

These campaigns have helped in changing the mindset of people, especially in rural areas, there has been a lot of awareness about girls’ education. These campaigns have had a great impact on the mindset of the people of the society. Now people are giving equal respect and rights to girls as boys.

On the occasion of National Girl Child Day, different types of campaigns are conducted on issues like safety, education, sex ratio, health of girls. People are made aware through street plays. Let us tell you that women have to face gender discrimination not only in villages but also in educated society.
