Nitish Kumar tweeted that on the occasion of drug addiction day, let us take a pledge to get rid of all kinds of drugs and play our role in building a drug-free society for a prosperous, healthy and happy Bihar.

To further strengthen the liquor ban in Bihar, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has come up with a novel way to tackle the menace of illegal and spurious liquor trade in the state. CM Kumar said that his government would give an amount of Rs 1 lakh to those who quit liquor business to earn livelihood. This scheme has come in the backdrop of prohibition in Bihar. The law was enacted in 2016 and sources said nearly four lakh people have been arrested under the charges since the introduction of the law.

Nitish Kumar said that if he leaves the toddy business and starts making neera (palm drink). Kumar said that those who consume liquor have been arrested in Bihar, but not those who do its business. CM Nitish Kumar said that the traders were not caught because they deliver liquor to the poor from door to door. He said, ‘There is no need to arrest the poor. We have brought this scheme for the poor who sell a little liquor or toddy.
