Delhi’s Patiala House Court on Monday sentenced five Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) terrorists to life imprisonment. He was accused of inciting youths across the country to carry out terrorist activities and giving them terrorist training. Special Judge Shailendra Malik sentenced Sajjad Ahmed Khan, Bilal Ahmed Mir, Muzaffar Ahmed Bhat, Ishfaq Ahmed Bhat and Mahraj-ud-Din Chopan to life imprisonment after being convicted under these charges, reported news agency PTI.

The court also sentenced Tanveer Ahmed Gani, another accused in the case, to five years imprisonment. The court said that all the convicts were conspiring to wage war against India. The convicts were not only members of the terrorist organization Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) but were also providing arms and ammunition to its terrorists. Along with giving shelter to all the guilty terrorists, they were helping them in every way. Along with inciting the local people of Jammu and Kashmir, the accused were luring them to take part in terrorist activities.

The NIA had started investigation in this matter by registering an FIR in March 2019. The probe agency said these terrorists were trained by Pakistan-based Jaish-e-Mohammed operatives to carry out terror attacks, besides conducting reconnaissance of Indian positions and providing support to terrorists. The agency alleged that these terrorists used to inspire the people of India to indulge in anti-national activities. Along with this, they were also arranging funds for carrying out terrorist activities.

The court said in its verdict that all the convicts had conspired together to wage war against India. It said that the convicts were not only members of Jaish but also supported terrorists by providing them arms, ammunition and logistics. Judge Shailendra Malik said the accused were also involved in motivating local people of Jammu and Kashmir to join militancy and arranging funds for carrying out terrorist acts.
