After about 15 hours of hard work, the traffic on the highway was restored.
The Gangotri Highway, which was blocked for traffic due to heavy debris falling last night near Dharasu band in Uttarkashi district, was opened for movement after noon. Due to this, the passengers trapped in the vehicles heaved a sigh of relief throughout the day. On the other hand, due to the closure of the highway, a patient admitted in the district hospital had to be referred to Doon in the morning by helicopter.
The Gangotri Highway remained stalled for traffic since morning near Dharasu Band amid the continuing rains in the district. BRO’s JCB was busy opening the road throughout the day, but due to the heavy debris that fell in the night, the traffic on the highway could hardly be smooth after noon. At around 4 pm, the traffic on the highway was smoothened by the BRO.

Due to the closure of the highway for about 15 hours, the common people had to face a lot of difficulties. District Disaster Management Officer Devendra Patwal said that BRO workers and JCB machines were working on the spot since morning to open the highway, but due to heavy debris falling, there were problems in smoothening the highway. Somehow the road was restored for traffic by evening.
Weather hindering the removal of snow from the Kedarnath pedestrian route
Snow removal work is going on by Lonivi DDMA on Kedarnath pedestrian route. However, continuous inclement weather is hampering the clearing of snow from the Kedarnath walkway. The weather stopped the hands of the workers. The work of laborers was affected due to snowfall. Exactly one month later, the journey to Lord Kedarnath Dham will begin.
On April 25, the portals of Baba Kedar will be opened for the darshan of pilgrims from India and abroad. In this context, District Magistrate Mayur Dixit has instructed all departments to make travel preparations on a war footing, but due to continuous rain and snowfall, difficulties are being created in travel preparations.
Lonivi DDMA had earlier made the movement of horses and mules on the Kedarnath pedestrian route, but due to the snowfall for the last few days, the movement of horses and mules on the pedestrian route has stopped. Workers are continuously preparing the way by removing snow from places like Kedarnath, Lincholi, Bhimbali etc. But due to continuous snowfall, the hands of the workers are stopping. The weather turned bad in the afternoon due to which the laborers working in Bhairav and Kuber glacier had to go to the camps.

At the same time, from the point of view of security, the work of removing snow is being done only when the weather is fine. DDMA’s EE Praveen Karnwal told that if the weather is good, the movement of horses and mules will be started on foot in just three days. The snow removal work is going on regularly but there are some problems due to snowfall. He told that where the railings are broken, they are being repaired.
